Archives For Software

So this is a bonus post today. Not really a bonus for you, more for me unless you are a Byword fanboy who loves to promote the software.

I’ve read several blogs lately (one, two, three) that reference Byword. Now that I am doing a lot more writing, I’m wondering if this is something I need. I currently do all of my writing in Evernote. I don’t really format my text as that is handled on my website using CSS. The little formatting I do is done with HTML when I create a link, use italics, a list, etc.

In other words, for writing projects, I’m already using Evernote as a straight text editor. I have the desktop software, the apps for my iPhone and iPad, and at work I use the browser version (since I don’t want my stuff synced to my work laptop). With Evernote, I have ready access to my resources files and things I’ve clipped from the web or emailed into Evernote. That seems like more of a reason why I wouldn’t want something like Byword.

However, I understand that it is hugely popluar among a number of writers I follow and respect, so I’m curious as to what I may be missing. I would appreciate it if you would leave a comment below or send me a message on Facebook or Twitter.

Thanks in advance.

Why Do I Need Byword When I Already Have Evernote?

How would you like to be able to tether your laptop to your smartphone and avoid the ridiculously expensive monthly tethering data plans charged by your cell phone carrier? Now you can.

Tether.com uses HTML5 to create a connection on your phone that supplies Internet availability to your laptop (tethering). This is great for situations where you don’t have a WiFi connection or when the rates are outrageous. When I am attending a convention with my company, many exhibit halls charge as much as $99 per DAY! With Tether.com, you can connect for $29.95 a YEAR. That’s a savings of about a billion dollars or something (I didn’t actually do the math right there).

Registration is amazingly simple. A free 14 day trial is included. Cancel during this period and your credit card won’t be charged. With the growing availability of free WiFi Continue Reading…

Believe me, I know the feeling. Regular breaks can be a good thing, but you have to stay in control of those breaks. There are numerous methods for this such as the Pomodoro Technique, or simply setting a timer to reminder yourself to step away for a few minutes. A business coach I once worked with suggested taking a five minute break every ninety minutes. I find this keeps me refreshed, but also gives me something to look forward too without too much of a wait.

How many projects are you working on? How many others would you like to work on “if I only had the time”. You probably had three, four, five, maybe even 20 things just run through your head. Now, where do you keep all of those organize and what is your strategy for making any of them happen?

I have become an avid user of Evernote for organizing not only my projects, but also my writing, and my document storage. Evernote can be used to organize just about anything you can image. I use if for the multitude of projects I work on, but I will eventually be adding things such as keeping track of (and storing) all of my documents such as health records, business receipts, and tons of other things that I am now keeping in file folders in a drawer.
